Round 1: Josh Kolb - Crab Shattered Peaks (Sensei I cant remember)
I've played verses Kolb before in Modern, so we pretty much both know what the other's deck does. Pretty much this game comes down to me dealing with a T4 Kuon xp6 after he got a bad gold start. This gives me plenty of time to set up and I just rocket away
Round 2: Phillipe - Lion Shamate Keep (No Sensei)
He got no holdings for the first couple of turns (beyond his legacy). Game right there.
Round 3: Daniel Landrum - Imperial JEK xp Honor (No Sensei)
I honestly don't remember much of this game other than I got a faster start than he did and won with a well timed Peaceful Discourse to cross me to 40 on his turn.
Round 4: Kempy Nezumi - The Forgotten Temple (No Sensei)
This game starts out fairly slow for me, and with his stronghold, he can keep pitching dudes like there is no tomorrow and just bring them back. I don't think I even got to 40.
Top 4: Phillipe - (Round 2)
I won game one after he was more or less prevented from making an attack until T5-6 due to a well setup Accidental Confession/Peaceful Discourse combo. Game two was the same as swiss as he just couldn't get a good gold start and I easily cross 40.
Finals: Daniel - (Round 2)
Games were on the stream, but for those who weren't able to watch:
Game 1 we both had decent starts. However his was quicker and had me on the heels the entire time. Might have had a chance if I had drawn a dishonor and a recursion for my Imperial Adjudication that I spammed earlier on in the game to prevent him from crossing earlier.
Game 2 was a close one, but I was able to get my honor holdings out faster... and honor holdings are SUPER clutch, especially in the honor matchup.
Game 3 got me with a slow start, but I was able to get out an early Naoharu and keep his honor down (he kept discarding the cards which was honestly probably the smart move). Midgame I was able to stop his Boastful Proclamation from triggering with my Shrine of the Sun, which probably saved me a bit of hassel. It went until it looked like I had no chance as his honor engine was just rocketing faster than me by late game (he was gaining 10+ honor a turn). However, on my last turn I was able to flip a Kazuo xp and draw into a Clash of Blades with my Tadanobu xp drawing me two cards a turn off of his duel. I buy Kazuo and pray to have an honor gaining Focus effect in my top 3 fateside. Just in case, I swing in with enough force to break his province with Iweko Miya in it to try and force a defense so as to gain 1 honor off of the Discretionary Valor in hand. The plan backfires as he throws in one guy and immediately uses his own Discretionary Valor. I'm thinking I've lost the game at this point. However, the Fortunes must have been on my side, as I had my Fortune's Smile 2 down, along with a Breaking the Rhythm and a 2fv card. I put Fortune's into my hand for draw phase and end the turn at 38 to his 31. My first action on his turn is to throw down the Clash of Blades with Kazuo, which he redirects to Seppun Ryota (a 3 chi duelist). He focuses from hand due to Kazuo xp's trait, and I focus the Fortune's Smile sitting in my hand. He strikes with a 3fv which wins me the duel gaining me 3 honor and a card. Since he is unable to drop me by 2 honor, I win the match.
